Edible & Ugly: Refeeding America Food Waste

Role

Video Editor

Description

“Sometimes, the uglier produce might be the best produce.” Cosmetically challenged fruits and veggies are being taken out of food waste bins and put onto plates in an effort to help feed the hungry and reduce harmful landfill waste.

Uneaten food ends up rotting in landfills and accounts for large methane emissions. Methane is a climate warming greenhouse gas that is more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide.

In 2015, the Obama administration issued a zero waste policy to increase non-hazardous recycling of solid waste and reduce greenhouse gases by 2030. And the EPA finds local and state governments that fail to meet threshold for zero waste.
